Life in Far Western became more difficult

KAILALI, MAY 01 - Life in the Far Western Region became tough as the banda called by various parties, student bodies and organisations entered its sixth day on Tuesday.
In Doti, markets, vehicular movement, educational institutions and government offices were closed while banda enforcers took out protest rallies in Silgadhi and Dipayal. They also chanted slogans demanding a federal state incorporating the whole of Far West.
The general shutdown crippled life in Kailali as well. Political activists, students, civil society members and businessmen took out protest rallies in various parts of the district. Vehicles belonging to press and hospital were obstructed with even rickshaws and bicycles not allowed to ply. A vehicle of Kantipur Publications was taken under control for one hour at Attaria, accusing the media house of not prioritising their concerns.
Transportation came to a halt in Dadeldhura. Coordinator of the struggle committee Laxman Budhair said that educational institutions, bazaars and businesses will remain shut from Wednesday.
Although marketplaces and government offices were open on Tuesday, closure of vehicular movement on long and short routes created a shortage of essential commodities in Bajhang. Drug suppliers said medicines are also in short supply. The banda also affected life in Achham.
